I know just from the title perhaps you think I'm confused. Am I crazy and do I think its Thanksgiving? No I am well aware that its a hot and balmy July in Georgia. This post is inspired by our sermon today. There's always a little video before the sermon starts at church. Today it was about thankfulness and when our normal preacher wasn't up there as the sermon started I thought to myself I am so thankful that when our regular pastor isn't there we have such a great blessing of having someone like Brett Legg to step in and always give such a great message. Today's in particular stuck with me.
This quote in particular, from Buddha:
“Let us rise up and be thankful, for if we didn't learn a lot today, at least we learned a little, and if we didn't learn a little, at least we didn't get sick, and if we got sick, at least we didn't die; so, let us all be thankful.”
He challenged each of us to take note of 5 things on a daily basis for three weeks that we are thankful for and to not mention the same thing every day. We have 86,400 seconds in every day that we are given. It shouldn't be that hard to think of 5 little things to be thankful for right? Its so easy in life to take focus on all the negative things around us that sometimes we miss the opportunity to just take joy in the little blessings that surround us all the time. Its just so easy to take hold of the negative and let it rule you that such a simple concept can really set you back and make you think or at least it did me.
I won't bore you with my daily list of things that I am thankful for but thought I would share today.
1. Since I've already mentioned it I am so thankful that we are blessed with somoene like Brett Legg. He is such an amazing person.
2. A friend's brother came home from Afghanistan today along with 197 other heroes that have been serving our country for the past year. I am so thankful that their family is whole again.

3. I love the fact that Noah loves to give me hugs and kisses. Silly yes, but today wasn't one of his most stellar days and those hugs and kisses remind you that underneath the almost 4 year old's angst of a bad day they still love you.
4. I got to sneak in a Sunday afternoon nap. It was short but still those little simple joys in life are nice.
5. For a great night at home. Sunday night TV in the summer is our favorite. True Blood and mint chocolate oreo ice cream. And as a bonus thing to be thankful for the storm going on during the show didn't knock out the satellite.
Yes these things may not all be huge and may not matter to anybody other than me. But those little joys in our lives are often what keep us going. Now to get to bed and hope we can stay there.

The simple joys
Well another trip to Kentuckiana is in the books. Twelve hours is a long ride for a three year old but our little man was a champ in every sense of the word. I really don't think any kid his age could have done better. We went up on Thursday and went to Pop Pop's. Friday morning we went to the motorcycle shop (which Noah just LOVED, especially the police man's bike) and then over to Grandma's. Upon turning onto Grandma's street he very happily announced it didn't take all night to get there.
Noah was quite excited to go to the river and throw rocks. Its a short walk from Grandma's and a great outing for a very energy filled boy the day after a long car trip. Noah and Caden got along great and it was so much fun to watch the two of them play.
Saturday we went down to a festival in Madison and hung out with Grandma's family for the day. It was nice to get to see Vicky, Art, Savannah and Rick. The boys eventually got everyone into playing bubbles with them. I'm not sure if the kids or the adults had more fun but either way a good time was had by all.
Sunday we stayed at Pop Pop's all day and Granny, Mary Kay, baby Will and the Stewart Clan came over to visit. Noah and Caden discovered Lynn's fountain quite early on in the day and had a great time. Both boys went through two changes of clothes throwing rocks into the top part of the fountain and splashing each other. Little Will is absolutely adorable and I am sure will be part of the boy action in no time. Aunt Beth brought super cool "noculars" that the boys thought were great for making adults look like tiny babies.
Monday came far too fast and Noah was not very happy about saying bye to Grandma. Noah had to get one last trip in to Pop Pop's shop. After that we headed back to the house for dinner with Pop Pop, Lynn, Jessica, Aaron, and Caden.
Having said all of this I get back to the title of my post. Kids may have all these fancy toys but when it comes down to it the simple joys in life are the ones they enjoy most. These two boys spent 4 days playing together and the great majority of their time centered around rocks, Big Wheels, bubbles, and splashing in a fountain. They spent countless hours playing Cootie Bugs, cars and Don't Spill the Beans. So no matter how much things in life may progress and change it always seems to be the simple things that bring us the greatest joys.

Family Photos
Ahh yes family photos, those two little words that can make the strongest of stomachs turn. And well anybody that knows me knows that I don't have a strong stomach to begin with. I hate, hate, hate pictures of me. Pictures I love just not when they involve me. But my mom has been asking for at least 5 years now for family photos. I can't remember exactly how long but my first strong memory of it was the Christmas that Val was pregnant with Aiden who will be 5 in July.
Luckily for us we have a beautiful backdrop for photos at Dawne & Stephen's home. Really there could not be a more perfect setting.
So this is the crew.
We were blessed by the fact that the sun was out, it wasn't too hot and the boys were in good moods. I hope that mom loves these pictures, who knows when we will ever tie this crew down for family photos again.

Busy Busy Busy
Along with all the normal craziness of day to day life, spring and fall are always busier times. Mom and I do several seasonal consignment sales and the last of those were dropped off this week. With that being done I am working like crazy getting things together to send to a boutique in Texas. This is a new venture and I'm really excited about that.
For other new things I am doing a give away in conjunction with this blog:
http://polkadotreviewsandgiveaways.blogspot.com/
She has great giveaways on her site so check it out.
In all of this business I have found a new addiction, hooded towels. Noah is quite fond of this addiction as well.
I'm trying to expand my offerings so I've been working on several other new things. I have a lot of fun with the bloomers and am looking forward to doing more of these.
Noah's going to have to have a pirate shirt with an N on it but I am a bad mommy and have run out of shirts in his size, so that will have to wait until tomorrow.
Somewhere in the middle of all this Noah did manage to get a Saint Patrick's Day shirt, which being mother of the year and all I forgot to take a picture of him in. I forgot in the morning and when he came home he had green hair, green icing on his shirt and tattoos all the way up his arm. Add on top of that he had been sick for 4 days and it was a beautiful day so he was covered in dirt. Somehow he didn't look nearly as cute by the time he came home.
Looking at all this in one place makes me feel a little better about things. Oh well we have big plans in the morning pending mother nature, so off to bed I go, have a great weekend everyone!
